I have had the great pleasure of meeting Greg (Bucka) and Phil over the past several years, through our daughter Kristen. Greg always impressed me with his calm demeanor, sense of humor and his deep love of his grand daughter, Jami.
We spoke of hockey and his "favorite team", and talked current events, a bit of politics and a lot about family. It was very evident that family was his greatest passion. I also got the sense he was a spiritual man.
He was a man who made me feel welcomed in his home and the last time I was there, we enjoyed a couple of "pops" together.
There will be many things said about this wonderful man over the next little while; people passionately pouring out their love and respect of his profound wisdom and intelligence, that he sometimes delivered in the most simplest way...
Personally, I want to express my gratitude and blessings that our Kristen found Greg and Phil through her best friend, Jami.
This deep friendship lead to her connection to Greg and Phil. Both my and Nancy's parents passed away before Kristen was old enough to form deep bonds. She remembers my dad some, but he was gone when she was young.
I say this through a profound sense of gratitude, that Kristen was very blessed to meet, know, and love two wonderful, loving people who became her surrogate grandparents. Both Nancy and I are eternally grateful for this!
Knowing the man Greg was, I leave you with two quotes that comfort me in times of grief and loss. It speaks of loss and sacrifice so others may thrive and I see Bucka as that type of man.
"...my name is made illustrious there by the light of his...It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest I go to than I have ever known. "
And finally, knowing Greg's spirituality I leave you with words that comfort me.
"Have courage for the great sorrows of life and patience for the small ones; and when you have laboriously accomplished your daily task, go to sleep in peace. God is awake. "
All our love and condolences,
Kevin and Nancy Scully
