Layes: John James, 79, of Cloverville, Antigonish Co., passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2014 in QE 11 Health Science Centre, Halifax. John was born on May 30,1934 in Fairmont, Antigonish Co, NS.
John was a strong family man who believed that no child, regardless of age, should be without a mother. Throughout his entire life, John worked hard to honour this commitment. John is survived by his wife, Rose; children, Johnny (Jacqueline), Antigonish, Richard, Toronto, Kevin (Carmen), Enfield, Margie (Jake), California, Pearl (Francis) Kelly, Pictou; grandchildren, Mary, Melinda, Nicholas, Rosalyn, Wesley, Lindsay; brothers, Bernie, Francis, Billy,Melvin, Jimmy; sister Laura (Robert) MacLean.
Besides his parents, Daniel Lawrence and Margaret Elizabeth (Cameron) Layes, he was predeceased by his daughter, Mary; brothers, Alexander, Lawrence, Danny and Alec; sisters, Marilyn and Carolyn.
Visitation, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday January 23, 2014, in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., Antigonish. Funeral Mass 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 24, 2014 in St. Ninian’s Cathedral, Antigonish, Rev. Andrew Boyd presiding. Burial at a later date in the parish Cemetery, Memorial donations to a charity of your choice.
