Obituary of Henry Edward Roberts
Eddie passed away peacefully in his 74th year at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish, NS. He was born 31 January, 1951 in Glace Bay to Jack and Peggy (Perry) Roberts.
He attended St. Anne’s Elementary School and St. Michael’s Senior High. Throughout his life he was known as a star athlete, most recognized as a great hockey player. He and his line mates were drafted by the Moncton Beavers Junior hockey team and spent a very successful year with them and upon returning, the same group were recruited to play with the new Cape Breton Metros Junior hockey team. Later in life he got involved in Pickleball and was a very important part of the Antigonish Pickleball group. To quote the members of his group “Eddie has a passion for playing the game, but an even greater passion for introducing others to our wonderful game”.
Ed spent most of his life in the construction Industry, as well as some short term employment with Cape Breton Development Corporation and Sydney Steel. He worked hard as a pipe fitter and welder and completed his learning by becoming a welding inspector. His success in his trades led him to start his own business in ND testing from which he retired. He was a very kind and caring soul and loved helping any person or animal in need. He was an avid sailor and his boat “The Bay B’ye” will remain in the family to sail the Bras d’Or and the Atlantic.
He was predeceased by both his parents and his brother Sheldon. He is survived by three children Ebony (Jason), Scott (Holly), Bretton (Tayler), two beautiful granddaughters Brooke and Ellie, his sister Lynn (Ike) Batten, Lesley (Mother of his children) and Moira (long time partner). He also was uncle to a nephew and three nieces who loved him very much. He was also an honorary grandfather to his friend’s children, who called him Grandpa Ed.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the SPCA or animal’s shelter of your choice. He loved animals and would always cheer for the underdog. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
