Patricia MacKenzie

Obituary of Patricia Ann MacKenzie

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Pat (White) MacKenzie, announce her passing on March 4, 2025 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. She was a beloved wife, mother, nana and friend to all who knew her.

Pat was born in Antigonish to Duncan and Mary Margaret (Cameron) White of Whiteside, Cape Breton.  She was the youngest daughter of seven children.

Pat spent her career in the banking industry. She first started out working with Royal Bank in both Antigonish and Halifax. She ended her career at CIBC in Antigonish and assisted many clients with their student loans.  She loved working at the bank as she was able interact with the public every day.

Following retirement, Pat took on more volunteer opportunities with St. Martha’s Hospital Auxiliary by working in the hospital gift shop and helping with fundraisers such as May Fest. Pat and John could be found at the local arena, where they spent many hours attending Bulldog hockey games and fundraising for the team.

Pat was introduced to John MacKenzie by mutual friends, and they married in August of 1972. They started their lives together in Halifax, but soon settled in Antigonish Harbour, where they remained for their married life. Their love and support for one another over the years is a good example of the importance of holding on to your loved ones in sickness and health. Pat faced many medical challenges over the last 13 years with John by her side.  She rarely complained through all the pain and procedures instead enduring with grace and dignity.

Pat loved her family, Cape Breton (God’s Country) and a good hot cup of tea with fudge. Pat was a true lady, in every sense of the word, for her style, class, dignity and grace, but perhaps most of all for her unending kindness and generosity.  She is also remembered for keeping the house so clean you could eat off the floor and she knew the importance of gratitude in the form of a handwritten, heartfelt thank you note.

She is survived by her loving husband, John, and their two daughters; Eileen (Colin MacEachern) and Kelly (Evan McCarthy); brother Francis (Brenda); grandchildren Brooke, Morgan, Owen and Rachel; brother-in-law John Campbell and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Duncan and Mary Margaret White; sisters Marie, Anita, Clare, Jean and Thelma.

The family would like to thank the R.K. MacDonald Nursing home staff for all their care and attention to Mom over the last three years. Also, thank you to the staff at St. Martha’s Hospital over the years and most recently the exceptional staff on the Palliative Care unit.
