Obituary of Shaun Chisholm
Shaun passed away suddenly, at age 81, on the morning of Monday, March 10th in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish, with his wife, Pamela, at his side.
Shaun was born on June 16, 1943 in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. He grew up on Hillcrest Street in Antigonish, attended St FX University followed by Industrial Arts training at Teachers College in Truro. Shaun began his teaching career in Mabou in 1970 and then moved to Sir John A. MacDonald High School in Hubley, NS until retirement.
In 2009, Shaun and Pam relocated to Antigonish to his childhood home on Hillcrest Street where they have grown strong community connections through volunteer work.
Shaun was a deeply empathetic, calm and kind person who did what he could to help others. His fun-loving antics and playful sense of humour will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He would go the extra mile for a laugh and enjoyed creating elaborate practical jokes, often at the expense of his dear sister Anne, many of which live on in family lore. He was always humble, curious and interested in the world around him and could figure out how to fix or build almost anything. He used these skills and his sense of whimsy to create magical childhoods for his children and grandchildren. Summers at the cottage with him will forever be part of our fondest memories.
Shaun’s loss is felt deeply by his wife Pamela (Aitken); children Matthew (Ragen), Ottawa; Sarah (Jeffrey), Haines Junction, YT; Adam, Halifax; his treasured grandchildren Neve, Orsen, Milla, Abel and Clare. He is survived by siblings, Anne Gosse, Estelle Grajczyk and Jim Chisholm as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father R. Leo Chisholm and mother Irene (O’Hearn) as well as siblings Eileen and Kevin.
Visitation will be held from 2:00-5:00 pm on Friday, March 14th in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant Street, Antigonish. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations gratefully appreciated to St. Vincent de Paul and Antigonish Affordable Housing.
