Father Stanley
Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of dear Father Stanley, from the entire Walsh family.
My father, Patrick Walsh, first met Fr. Stanley in the 1950’s as a student at St. F.X., and he remained a faithful friend to all of us ever since.
Throughout the to following decades Fr. Stanley would be present for many of our family celebrations.
Prior to their retirement to Calgary in 1999, my parents enjoyed visits to his summer home in Cape Breton. He was the celebrant for my sister Mary’s wedding in 1987, and when my parents returned to Antigonish for their 50th wedding anniversary in 2010, he celebrated the Mass and renewal of their marriage vows in the St. F.X. Chapel.
I was lucky to see him last September on my way through Antigonish. We met for coffee at The Tall and Small and we chatted for over two hours. I congratulated him on his recent induction into the St. F.X. Sports Hall of Fame. We caught up on family news and he told some great stories, reminiscing about his days playing hockey for St. F.X. in the ‘50’s and filling me in on all the latest St. F.X. sports news.
While we were there, literally everyone, young, old, St. F.X. student or townsperson who entered the coffee shop came and said hello to him.
His longevity was certainly helped by his many friendships and his continued postive involvement in life at St. F.X.
He will be always loved, never forgotten and forever missed by many including all the Walshes.

I was very saddened to hear about Father Stan's passing. His booming "Go X Go" will live forever in my memory and I am sure the memories of many. He was such a bright light on campus! My sincerest condolences to those closest to him.

What I have read here has been inspiring and thoughtful to say the least. There are many things I could say and reflect upon when I think about the life and ministry of Stanley MacDonald.
We first met in 1977 when I was appointed to Inverness and four other churches in the county, as a United Church clergy. Fr. Stan and many of his parishioners welcomed my wife, Kate, and me wholeheartedly. His friendship and collegial advice was quite helpful to a newcomer in ministry, and I have never forgotten our time together in the community.
To his family and many friends, colleagues, and students, I extend deepest sympathy as we honour his life and pastoral presence.
RIP Stanley and in God's keeping.
Respectfully,
I

Family, Friends, Colleagues and the St.F.X. Community
Our sincere condolences to all who were blessed to know this wonderful man. Father Stan brightened up a room with his presence. His jest for communication, meeting people and life in general was unique. He enjoyed learning his whole life and through discussions on various topics would always enlighten those present. He loved his family and was extremely proud of his Cape Breton roots. He always loved watching the students move into residence but was saddened to see them pack up at the end of the semester. He thoroughly enjoyed his rotations between Inverness and Antigonish. Father Stan will always hold a special spot in our hearts.

Father Stanley has been a friend since his days in Inverness in the late 1970s and early 1980s. While contact with him was infrequent, the visits at his cottage and to his StFX appartment were joyful and filled with wonderful discusions about faith and journeys. My dear wife, who died in April, helped reorganize his parish office in Inverness in 1977-78. Stan’s rich spirituality was a tremendous gift in my life and I will forever be thanful for his prayers and guidance for my journey in ministry. Rest well my friend! You were indeed one of God’s gifts to many.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord
And let perpetual light shine upon him.
May his soul, and the souls of the faithful departed,
Through the mercy of God,
Rest in peace. Amen

Father Stan played a significant role in my first year at StFX. He was always willing to sit down with me, share a story, or give me a fist bump as I entered or exited the meal hall. One day, as I was walking into the meal hall, I noticed that he had a large load of dishes to return and looked like he could use some help navigating the stairs. I offered my assistance, and he accepted with a smile. Once we were inside, he asked my name and if he could join me at a table. From that moment on, he never forgot my name and made sure to greet me every time he saw me. Everytime he took the time to say hi was the highlight of my day especcially when I was having a bad day. I aspire to keep sharing my StFX pride with others for as long as I can. He will be deeply missed by the entire StFX community.Father Stan played a significant role in my first year at StFX.
