Obituary of Leo Francis Chisholm
With heavy hearts, the family of Leo “Boots” Chisholm announces his peaceful passing on July 4, 2025, at the age of 95. Born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, to John Alexander (Jack) and Sarah Catherine (MacEachern), Leo was a devoted family man, respected businessman, and pillar of his community. For over four decades, he owned and operated J.A. Chisholm Shoes, serving generations of loyal customers with warmth, honesty, and integrity.
Leo believed deeply in service. He was a long-time board member of CJFX Radio, the Bergengren Credit Union, St. Martha’s Hospital, the R.K. MacDonald Guest House, and the John Howard Society. He served 13 years on Antigonish Town Council, was the first chair of St. Ninian’s Parish Council, and a past president of the Antigonish Highland Society. He also volunteered with humility as a driver for the Kidney Foundation.
In lighter moments, Leo was a proud founding member of the Tim Hortons Senate, where stories and laughter were always on the menu. He was also a generous supporter of the Antigonish Heritage Museum, a reflection of his deep love for local history and culture.
Leo is lovingly remembered by his wife, Kathleen; his daughters Jane (Steve) and Joan (Rene); and his son Matthew (Marianna). He was a proud grandfather to Libby, Tess, Rhys, Max, Mya, and Jack.
He was the fifth of thirteen siblings. Surviving are his sisters Ann (Antigonish), Sister Mary, CSM (Bethany), and Mora LePage (Bruce) (Lewiston, ME); and his brother Drew (Pam)(Ladysmith, BC). He was predeceased by his parents and siblings Sister Isabel, CND; Ruth(of the Grail Movement); Sister Jean, CSM (Bethany); Elizabeth Clare; Frances; John; Lauchie; and Joey.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home, especially Rosemary Wallace, and to the St. Martha’s Hospital Palliative Care Unit for their exceptional care and compassion.
