Dear Matt, Joan, Jane and Kay,
I was saddened to hear about Uncle Leo's passing. He lived a long life, and he was full of life. I remember going to the shoe store and seeing the walls of shoe boxes. Uncle Leo was smiling whenever we visited, and he was happy to impart family history and Antigonish history to anyone who wanted to hear it, including me as I grew older. I think it was him or Matt who told me that the head coach of the Ottawa Senators at the time was a relative, Paul MacLean. I had no idea. Not too long ago, he also was really excited to send me a hard copy of the Antigonish nicknames list he had compiled years before. This is quite the document - Leo "Boots," his nickname was one of many on this list. I received it in the mail, so old school at the time, but really endearing. We also chatted once about Antigonish history, and Uncle Leo decided to send me two books about Antigonish history also by mail. I also have a fond memory of Uncle Leo walking to Highland Drive where he grew up and where my grandma and Aunt Ann still lived at that time from his home not too far away whenever he knew my family was visiting. The first three photos are from when his family and my family (My Mom (his sister Frances), My Dad (Frank), my sister Eileen, my brother Ed and I) met up in San Francisco on vacation. The fourth photo was take in Rockport, MA. Photos more than like taken by my Dad. The fifth photo is from The Casket, I believe. All the best to all who knew him, and rest in peace, Uncle Leo.
