John Bray

Obituary of John Christopher Bray

If the only measure of a human’s life was time, it would seem short, but when measured in memorable moments and love, Chris’s was infinite. Chris, of New Glasgow, NS departed this earth on August 27th, 2025.

John Christopher (Chris) Bray graced his presence in Antigonish on February 12th, 1984. He held the record as the biggest baby born at the Antigonish Hospital (until the mid 90’s) where he weighed in at a whopping 11 lbs 12.5 oz when born. Just like his entrance into this world, he did things big, bold, with great tenacity, spirit, resilience, and strength.

From an incredibly early age he had an insatiable thirst for all things vehicle related. He would use this knowledge at the age of three, to tell his grandmother what to do to get the truck unstuck from snow -And it worked. This extended into him helping on his grandparent’s farm when he was older, from throwing in hay on the old ford truck to admiring his Big Papa’s tractor

Chris and his father Gerard shared a love and passion for racing cars, and they often were found together at Riverside Speedway. This love of racecars extended into adulthood for Chris, and he would often travel around the Maritime provinces to take in a good race. Chris also shared a love of baking with his mother Elaine and sister Jennifer. His cheesecakes were popular amongst those that knew him, and he would give one of his cheesecakes for a special occasion or just because.

Though Chris’s time was short, the impact of his love endures. It is apparent in the way he showed up for his nieces and nephew. As we say farewell for now to Chris, we tightly embrace the warmth of his laughter and the joy of his love.

Chris is predeceased by his maternal grandparents; Albert and Caroline Poirier (nee:Smith); paternal grandparents Vernon and Margaret Bray (nee: Wallace); Great grandmother Elizabeth Bray (nee Walsh); Great aunt Eileen Bray; maternal aunt Betty MacLean (nee Poirier) and cousin Nicholas (Nicky) Onion

Chris will be lovingly remembered as he leaves behind his parents: John Gerard Bray (Lochaber); Elaine Poirier (Stellarton); sister Jennifer Bray (New Glasgow). He was a doting uncle to Connor, Chelsea and Hailey Jeans,New Glasgow. He also leaves behind many heartbroken aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and acquaintances.
