Obituary of Henricus Antonius Bekkers

Bekkers, Henricus “Henry” A., Clydesdale, passed peacefully at St. Martha’s Hospital, Antigonish, on September 7, 2025.

He was born in Sint-Oedenrode, Nederland on December 31, 1933, and immigrated to Canada with his family in 1952. He was a machinist by trade and worked at Fairey Aviation and later at the Dockyard in Dartmouth. During this time, he lived in Lake Echo, Halifax County and was an active member in the community of St. Anne’s parish. He retired to Clydesdale in 1996, where he enjoyed many happy years with his family. 

Survived by his wife of 64 years, Mien (van de Wiel) Bekkers and four children: Rita (Dean) Schofield, St Andrews; Peter (Trish) Bekkers, Shubenacadie; Cynthia (Steve) Wright, Beauly; and Sisca (Daniel MacLellan) Bekkers, Lower Springfield; grandchildren Greg (Megan), Mina, Alex (Madison), Will, Jenna (Mitchell), Lisa, Katryn (Claude), Sarah, Nella, John Albert, Maria, and James; five great-grandchildren; brothers Marinus and Martien. Predeceased by his parents and brothers John and Tony. 

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00pm on Tuesday, September 9th in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St, Antigonish. Funeral mass will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday September 10th in St. Ninian’s Cathedral, Antigonish with Fr. Danny MacLennan presiding. 

The family requests family flowers only please. Donations may be made in memory to St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, 25 Bay Street, Antigonish, or VON Antigonish.
