In sadness at her death and with gratitude for her peaceful passing, the family of Mary Bernice MacFarlane (71) of Williams Point, Antigonish County announce her death on September 12, 2025.

Despite her many struggles she will be remembered for her kindness and enduring love of those around her.

She was a woman of faith and found comfort in prayer. Frequent phone calls to family and friends were her lifeline. Bernice especially loved getting the news of her treasured nieces and nephews and their many adventures. Her favorite greeting was “How’s she shapin?”.

She was a talented crocheter and made hundreds of cotton dish cloths as gifts. She loved her shopping excursions and had much joy from sending and receiving greeting cards.

She brought her beloved son Jonathan into the world, whom she chose to place for adoption.

Music was an important part of her life. Fittingly, her favourite song was Heart of Gold by Neil Young. No one had a bigger heart than Bernice.

The treasured daughter of the late Frank and Kitty MacFarlane, Bernice is survived by her son Jonathan, siblings, Joe, Janie (Doug Covey), Lynn, Beverly (Elliott Anderson), John A. (Roma), Ronald (Claudia), Bill (Ann) and Peggie (Joe MacLean).  She was predeceased by her beloved sister Brenda, sister-in-law Dianne MacFarlane, and brothers-in-law Bill Teasdale, Don Bowering and Bob Wakefield.

Her family is eternally grateful for her wonderful caregivers at Oakwood Terrace and Chadwick Street in Dartmouth. Special thanks to Dr. Black and the staff at the Nova Scotia Hospital.

There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 16 at 11.00am, St. Ninian’s Cathedral, Rev Daniel MacLennan presiding.

Memorial donations may be made to the Saint Ninian’s Ceiling Restoration campaign c/o St. Ninian Parish Foundation or to the charity of your choice.
