Obituary of Eric Lawrence Proudfoot
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Eric Lawrence Proudfoot, who left this world peacefully on October 14, 2025, in St. Martha's Regional Hospital in Antigonish. Born on April 30, 1938, Eric was the cherished son of Elmer and Catherine "Kate" (Grant) Proudfoot.
Eric dedicated the latter half of his working life to St. Martha's Hospital, where he was known for his unwavering commitment and kindness. Prior to that, he spent many years with Dominion Stores, demonstrating a strong work ethic that lasted until he was 71. Even after retirement, Eric continued to share his time and talents, working part-time at St. Ninian Place for several years, where he touched the lives of many.
A man of many passions, Eric found joy in dancing, often attending numerous dances with his beloved wife, Dawn. Together for 61 wonderful years, they created a lifetime of memories filled with laughter and love. Eric also enjoyed bowling and skating, activities that brought him great happiness and camaraderie. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, where he fostered friendships and community spirit.
Eric's greatest pride and joy were his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Dawn (Beaton), his daughter Jean, and son-in-law James "Cub" Rossong. He adored his grandsons: James of Havre Boucher, Jeremy of Heatherton, and Jarret, with his girlfriend, Maggie MacDonald of Antigonish. Eric's legacy lives on through them and the many Beaton and Proudfoot family members who will carry his memory forward.
As the last surviving member of his immediate family, Eric is predeceased by his brothers Grant, Ralph, Frank, and Elmer "Bud," as well as his sisters Jean, Shirley, Holley, and Audrey Kean. Their memories will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Cremation has taken place, and in honoring Eric's life, a Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am on Monday, October 20, 2025, at St. Ninian Cathedral, with Reverend Danny MacLennan presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to CARMA Antigonish Chapter, Coastal K9, or a charity of your choice.
Eric Lawrence Proudfoot will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and the love he shared with all who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace.
