Aunt Ellie and Uncle Rik were lifelong friends with my parents John and Mary Planting. They met while living in Dealtown while raising young families and continued that friendship through difficult times, moves and celebrations. Aunt Ellie was my Godmother and I will always cherish my memories with her. The day she helped assemble the table arrangements for my wedding, when she held my babies or visited with my mom and dad. Always full of happiness, sincerity and laughter. I will cherish the little keepsakes she sent us in the mail....of course an alphabet book with my daughter's name and little Christmas ornaments for the kids. Rest in peace Aunt Ellie...till we meet again. Krista (Planting) Crow

Rick, Todd and Charlene:
We are very sad to hear of your loss. My parents have always considered Ellie amongst their very closest friends.
We all have fond memories of living next door to you in Dealtown! We are not related but I still refer to her as Aunt Ellie 45+ years later! I can remember her being there for us during tough times. She was such a great person with a personality you could never forget.
Please accept our deepest condolences from the entire Planting Family
John Planting

Aunt Ellie will always be remembered for her bright humour and her beautiful gift of making everyone feel seen and special. Though she wasn’t my aunt by blood, she was an aunt by love in every sense of the word—full of kindness, laughter, and warmth. Her big heart touched everyone lucky enough to know her, and her spirit will always be part of the love she shared so freely.
And YES I still have the Christmas ornaments she gave me in the 1970's
Love Jodie Gillier (nee Planting)

My sincere condolences to Rick, Char & Todd on Ellie's passing. Ellie was a wonderful presence in our lives in Florenceville and will be deeply missed. Special memories include many Christmas eve's at the Weavings with tourtiere on the menu and slush to drink (Ellie did not check ID's when serving slush to her guests), fireworks after the Canadiens Stanley Cup win in '93 and two memorable summer trips to Omemee. Much love to the whole Weaving family during this difficult time.
- Ben Pryde (Florenceville / Halifax)

Ellie was my oldest and very dear friend. We met when we were 3 or 4 years old. I have wonderful memories of our early years such as listening to Santa Claus on the radio in her living room, as no one had a television yet and us both promising to be good until Christmas. We went to school together, took ballet and baton twirling lessons and attended Brownies. Ours was a magical childhood.
When I was 14, I moved away and we kept in touch with letters and occasional weekend visits. It became more difficult when we married and had children and lived in different parts of the country but we always stayed connected.
When Ellie and Rick moved to the Peterborough area, my husband Bill and I started seeing a great deal of them. We had so much fun on these weekend visits either at our house or theirs. We always included a “Field Trip” to see local attractions during those visits and all of us enjoyed it very much.
When we were children, Ellie once confided in me that she wished we were sisters. Ellie was an only child and longed for that sisterly bond. She brought that desire to be my sister up again about 10 years ago and we started sending each other sister birthday cards and referring to each other as sister. It just seemed the natural thing to do.
I will miss my dear sister very much.
