I am very saddened to hear of the passing of Hugh.
When I was posted to the Port Hawkesbury Detachment, I would often stop by the Town of Mulgrave office just to sit and chat with Hugh. Those visits were never rushed. He was a wonderful man, warm, kind, and genuinely interested in the people around him.
He was very proud of the RCMP artwork that hung in his office, and he spoke often about his children with such pride. We also spent a lot of time talking about British Columbia, where I am from. Those conversations always felt easy and familiar, like catching up with an old friend.
Whenever I travel past Mulgrave now, I know I will think of Hugh and the great conversations we shared.
My thoughts are with you all. I feel grateful to have known him, even in those simple, everyday moments.

Ann, Janet, Marlene, Hugh’s family, and extended Landry family,
To lose a family member is never easy, it leaves an empty spot in our heart that can never be filled. Remembering the good times, the love, the stories, the humor, the laughter, the lessons and the struggles, helps to heal the hurt and keep the good memories alive. and witty raconteur of many interesting stories. Hugh enjoyed adventures around the world and experienced both challenges and joy as his life wound through every strata of society. My deepest sympathy to Hugh’s family. I went to French classes in pomquet with Hugh and our class was a lot of fun and laughs. Our class outing to Cheticamp was the best trip ever and Hugh took us all in his rig. So many laughs and fun that day at the Doryman. Hugh was the fun loving guy of our group and always smiling. Keeping him, Jocelyn and family in my prayers.

Being a good friend of Marlene for many years, I met her brother Hugh several times. The thing I remember most about Hugh was his wit and his great sense of humor. Hugh had quite an impact on my life, as our families were next door neighbors until 1967. Many vivid memories of climbing trees, pulling carrots from Danny Angus” garden, skating on home made rinks, going to the playground. I will always remember the day he fell from one of the swings, breaking his wrist in what my 7 or 8 year old self thought was the most horrific looking injury. As happens, our lives went to different places, but those early memories stay with someone for life. I had heard that he had his troubles, so my wish is that he is at a place of peace now. I send my heartfelt condolences to Ann, Janet and Marlene and his children and all of the Landry family members.

It’s impossible to put into words how the passing of a loved person impacts his family and friends. We grieve, weep, reminisce. We remember the joy they brought into our lives, and the lessons they taught us. We remember the tough times, when mistakes were made as well as the high times when life was well-lived, love was shared and accomplishments were earned. If we are lucky, we consider loss to be an opportunity to come together and relationships that have become distant or lost are strengthened or rebuilt.
Hugh was my uncle, my mom’s brother. He was my grandparent’s son and my cousin’s dad. Although his passing is deeply felt in my family, I am grateful that he passed peacefully, having been well cared for and supported by many of his closest family members.
My heart-felt condolences to Matthew, Rebecca, Timothy, Mom, Ann, Marlene as well as his grand children and anyone who feels his loss.
Gone, but unforgettable. May Uncle Hughey rest in peace. May his family and friends remember him fondly and take the lessons he taught them to heart.

Hugh and I went to school together and it was a great pleasure for me to reconnect with him through a Catholic ministry group I volunteer with. Our team grew very fond of Hugh during his time at Ivy Meadows; he participated regularly in our lay services and everyone enjoyed his voice as he sang hymns with us.
