Hugh Landry

Obituary of Hugh Landry

With great sadness we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and brother, James Hugh Landry, 71, of Beaverbank, Nova Scotia. Hugh passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, January 21, 2026 in Ivy Meadows Continuing Care Home in Beaverbank, NS.

Hugh was born in Antigonish, the son of James Raphael and Isabel Ann (Chisholm) Landry. He attended high school at Dr. J.H. Gillis High School followed by undergraduate studies at St. Francis Xavier University. He graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA) degree. He also earned a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) degree from St. Mary's University in 1992.

Not long after completing his undergraduate studies, Hugh started his working career at the Bank of Nova Scotia in Halifax followed by three years at Michelin Granton in accounting. He was hired as finance officer for Coady International Institute at St. F. X. University where he worked for 30 years, finishing in the role of Assistant Director. After Coady, Hugh worked as C.A.O. for the Town of Mulgrave until 2015. Hugh resided in the Halifax area for the last 11 years, with the best of those years spent at Ivy Meadows.

Hugh was involved with several community organizations and was always an active member of his community. Throughout his career, Hugh spent time as President of Antigonish Minor Soccer, Braemore Cooperative, as well as other organizations. He was also a board member of Soccer Nova Scotia, Bergengren Credit Union and many more. He continued to lead and contribute to his community as he enjoyed being the Chair of the Residents Board at Ivy Meadows. Hugh was a favourite of staff and residents alike, respected for his kindness, thoughtfulness and humour.

Keeping with the Landry family tradition, the crib board was never far away. Hugh was always ready for a game, or ten. He would often use his quick wit and good sense of humour to earn or sneak a win.

A loving father of three, Hugh is survived by son Matthew (Sarah), their children Maks and Quinn, Halifax; daughter Rebecca (Derek), their children Marley and Solomon, Squamish, BC; Timothy and his daughter Willow, Halifax, NS; his children's mother, Jocelyn Landry (MacDonald), Pomquet; sisters Ann (Bob) Brown, Hamilton, ON; Janet (Peter) MacDonald, Doctors Brook; Marlene, Antigonish; as well as several extended family members. He was predeceased by his parents James and Isabel Landry.

Our family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Northwood's Ivy Meadows Campus for all their excellent loving care.

Cremation has taken place and a private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
