Obituary of Kenneth Lee McKenna

It is with broken hearts that we, the family of Kenneth Lee McKenna of Brierly Brook, announce his passing on Thursday, January 22, 2026, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.

Born in Antigonish, Kenneth was the son of the late Gerald and Dorothy (Mattie) McKenna.

Ken was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, godfather, and friend to many, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Ken is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Ann (Leo Floyd),  Antigonish; son, Joseph Gerald (Jerry), Brierly Brook; grandchildren, Jenna Floyd and Mark Floyd;  great-granddaughter, Rose Ann Floyd-McDonald; sister, Carol (Wayne) Pelly of Lantz, NS; brother, Patrick, Antigonish; brothers-in-law, James Brown,  Antigonish and John R. Brown, Houston, TX;  sisters-in-law, Catherine Ann MacDonald, Antigonish; Marcella Brown and Bernadette Brown, both of Big Marsh. He was also a godfather to nephews Michael Pelly and Darcy MacDonald, and is fondly remembered by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Besides his parents, Ken was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary Elizabeth (Brown); sisters, Maureen and Katherine (Kitty); sisters-in-law, Melinda (Bowie) McKenna and Brenda (Connor) Brown; and brothers-in-law, Richard MacKinnon, Joseph Tramble, Alexander Brown, Lauchie MacDonald, Theo Blanchard and nephew Douglas McKenna.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks and heartfelt appreciation to everyone involved in Dad’s care at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, as well as to Dr. Mary Gorman, for their compassion and dedication.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Tuesday, January 27th, 2026 in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., Funeral mass 11 am Wednesday, January 28th, 2026 in St. Ninian Cathedral, Rev. Danny MacLennan presiding. Burial in the parish cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to charity of one’s choice.
