Obituary of Gregory Campbell
Greg Campbell passed away peacefully at home February 6th, 2026 surrounded by his family. Born in the town of Antigonish, Greg’s family later moved to Harbour Centre, where he developed a deep appreciation for country living. He returned to Antigonish in childhood and eventually settled in Lanark in 1973 with his wife Phil and their children.
Greg was born the oldest of five children to Sadie (MacGillivray) and Joe Campbell. Greg lost his father at age 17, which created a role of responsibility he felt for his siblings from then onwards. He was a devoted husband to Phil, proud father, grandfather, and Godfather to five and a reliable friend and neighbour to all who knew him. Greg took deep comfort and pride in his faith and held these values close (so much so that he wouldn’t even tackle the ‘occasional’ job for Phil on a Sunday!).
To Greg, there was truly no place like home. Everyone was welcomed with a smile, and he loved people dropping by for a visit, especially for a cup of tea or maybe something stronger. He enjoyed reminiscing about local history, ancestry, and people’s life stories.
Greg was known to many as a true “Mr. Fix It.” He could often be found renovating a house, working on a project, or tinkering in his old shop. Greg was intelligent, determined, and most importantly, kind. He was also very stubborn, which contributed to keeping many machines running long past their expected time. You could even hear the occasional “Jingles!” if things weren’t going to plan.
He lived with a deep appreciation for the outdoors. Greg loved four-wheeling, skidooing with the boys, and being out in the woods. Inside, you could find him watching – and coaching- his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs.
Greg, a dedicated and hard worker, was employed at The Casket, where he was proud to be the printer of the final paper made at the Antigonish location. He then continued working as a self-employed painting contractor and finally retired as a school bus driver.
He is predeceased by his parents and his brothers Sandy and Timothy. Greg is survived by his wife, Phil; his children Lee Ann (Craig); Joe (Arlene); Allan (Cherie); his cherished grandchildren Thomas (Jess); Jami (Nolan); Holly; and Johanna (Will), by whom he was affectionately named Bucka. Greg leaves behind brothers Linus and Doug (Sandra/Chick). He also held a special place in his heart for extended family Heidi and Quincy.
Greg has now left Campbell Mountain for an even higher place. In lieu of flowers or donations, in true Greg Campbell fashion, please do a favour for a friend or neighbour.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Tuesday, February 10th in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant Street, Antigonish. Funeral Mass 11 am Wednesday in St. Ninian Cathedral, Reverend Danny MacLennan presiding.
The family would like to thank VON, HomeCare, and Family 1st Medical for their wonderful care and support. An extra special thanks to the Palliative Care Team: Dr. Rice, Valerie Pettipas and Bucka’s #1 nurse, his granddaughter Jami.
