It is with sad hearts we announce the passing of Philip Francis Delorey, age 78, in St Martha’s Regional Hospital on February 12, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born on September 8, 1947, in St Martha’s, he was the eighth of eleven children to the late James WiIlliam and Mary Angela (Pettipas) Delorey of Merland, NS.
Philip attended school at the Merland schoolhouse, then in Tracadie until 1960. Following this, he worked in many occupations across Canada, including security for CN Rail, and in the pulp and paper, oil and gas, construction, and trucking industries. Most notably he worked on the erection of the Confederation Bridge as a member of the Operating Engineers Union, Local 721.
Philip is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Annette (Bailey); sons Jason (Cheyenne); and Kyle (Jennifer); grandchildren Luke, Kyla (Matt), and Jesse; brothers Joe (Claire); John (Margaret), Antigonish; Charlie (Mary); and Michael (Betsy), Heatherton; sisters Margaret LeBlanc, South River; Martha Carnegie, Nanaimo, BC; and Agnes Kennedy, Dartmouth; sisters-in-law Jane Ivany, Trenton; Teresa MacDonald, Alberta; Lorraine (Roger) Facey; Baileys - Gina, Margaret, and Brenda; brothers-in-law Larry Bobko; Baileys - Angus (Sheila), Bernard (Valerie), Reginald (Kim) all of Antigonish County; and Raymond, Toronto, several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his beloved grandson James, brother Henry, sisters Teri Bobko, Mary Marcella in infancy, parents-in-law James and Veronica (Cross) Bailey, brothers-in-law Clifton LeBlanc, Albert Carnegie, Samuel Kennedy, Baileys - Sandy, Erine, and Carl, a nephew James in infancy, and his trusted friend Jake.
Philip was a very kind-hearted soul who loved animals, especially horses and dogs.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 4-6pm on Wednesday, February 18th in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St, Antigonish. Funeral Mass, 11 am on Thursday in Immaculate Conception Church, Heatherton with Rev. Dennis Lamey presiding. Burial at a later date.
The family would like to thank the physicians and staff of St Martha’s Hospital ER, ICU, PCU, and Palliative Care Departments for their kindness and compassion.
Memorial donations may be made to the St Martha’s Palliative Care Unit or a charity of choice.
