Obituary of Frances Margaret MacNeil
It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother Frances Acker MacNeil, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 28th, 2026, at the age of 80.
Born in Cape Breton on October 29, 1945, Frances lived a life filled with purpose, grace, and resilience. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, and a cherished friend to many. Through her gentle words, home-cooked meals, and quiet acts of generosity, she made everyone around her feel seen, valued, and deeply loved.
Frances and Ron met in Toronto, Ontario and were married on July 20th, 1968. They shared 56 years of marriage built on love, laughter, and unwavering partnership. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home in Mississauga, where family and friends were always greeted with open arms. Upon retirement, they returned home to Nova Scotia, settling in Antigonish to live out their dreams surrounded by the people and places they loved most.
Frances was the heart of our family—a woman of kindness, strength, and endless compassion. She devoted her life to caring for those she loved, always putting family first and offering comfort, wisdom, and steadfast support. She loved nothing more than having her family together, especially during the holidays, where she was known for her delicious turkey dinners and far too many presents under the Christmas tree.
In her younger years in Mississauga, weekends were often spent playing cards with friends, sharing laughter and making lifelong memories. She took a special trip to Nashville with Ron to celebrate their 25th anniversary and loved talking about it for years. She was deeply generous and fiercely loyal, and her home was always open to anyone who walked through the door. She especially loved the more recent shopping trips with Joe to New Glasgow, always in search of a good sale and a great find. She found comfort in Joe always being there for her and Dad.
Frances dedicated over 27 years of hard work to both Coleman and Sunbeam, before retiring in 2000. She was a constant presence in the lives of her children, proudly supporting their early sporting activities, traveling from baseball diamonds to soccer fields and hockey rinks. Even in later years, she found great joy in watching videos Dylan was working on for school, hearing about his latest scripts and ideas or following hockey videos of games cheering on David as he coached William and Matthew.
She is survived by her children, Joe, Ron, and David (Lindsay); her beloved grandson, Dylan and step-grandchildren, Cassie, William, and Matthew; as well as her siblings: Judy, Viola, Gene, Jenny and many extended family members and dear friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
Frances was predeceased by her parents, Frank Acker and Jessie Hiscock-Acker and siblings Ronnie, Herman, Betty, and Sylivia
She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—time spent with family, long phone calls with her sisters, reading, and fish and chips for supper at the wharf. Her legacy lives on in the values she instilled: love, patience, faith, and the importance of always showing up for one another.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Palliative Care staff and the team at St. Martha's Hospital, who worked so diligently to ensure our mother was comfortable and cared for with dignity and compassion in her time of need.
Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing her love remains with us always and that she is now at peace. She taught us how to live with grace and how to love without limits. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
As per her wishes, there will be no visitation or service.
Rest peacefully, Mom. Your love is our guiding light, now and always.
In Loving Memory
Frances MacNeil
