Obituary of Dorothy Agnes McTaggart

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Agnes McTaggart on June 3, 2026, at the age of 93.

Born on October 4, 1932 in Toronto, Ontario to parents Agnes (nee Crombie) and Robert Fullerton Clelland who had emigrated to Canada from Lanarkshire, Scotland.

Dorothy was predeceased by her parents and her siblings Margaret, Bill and Bob. She and her siblings shared a deep affection for each other and they grew up with many fond memories of their childhood. Dorothy worked as a medical secretary for most of her career where her dedication and attention to detail was appreciated by doctors and patients alike. Dorothy loved gathering people together, celebrating birthdays and holidays and creating traditions that strengthened bonds with family and friends across generations. She was known for her warm smile wherever she went.

Dorothy shared a loving marriage with her husband, Donald McTaggart. A blended family was created with their union and they both took great joy in watching it grow over time to include daughters-in-law and sons-in-law and many grandchildren. She and Don enjoyed traveling across the country and across the pond. Closer to home, they spent quality time at the cottage on Crystal Lake. In retirement, she and Donald moved to Bobcaygeon, Ontario where she found another circle of new friends and community. Dorothy enjoyed book club, art classes, curling and lawn bowling. She served as the president of the Ross Memorial Hospital Auxiliary from 1999 to 2001 and was an active member of Trinity United Church. She had a passion for cooking, baking, knitting and sewing. With Donald’s passing in 2013, she continued to live in the community until she moved to Antigonish, Nova Scotia in 2023 to be near her daughter, Margot.

Dorothy will be missed by daughters, Dr. Margot Sadler (Kevin) Andrea Sadler, and sons Ross (Dori) McTaggart, Bob (Lorraine) McTaggart and Andrew (Sonya) McTaggart. She was a cherished Grandmother to Doug (Rosie), Kyle (Amy), Lauren, Liam, Sydney, Dawson, Ryleigh, Logan and Brittany. She will be missed by many treasured nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Green Meadows Community Residence for Seniors for the kind and dedicated care they gave to Dorothy in her last year of life. A Celebration of Life will be held at Trinity United Church in Bobcaygeon, Ontario on October 6, 2026 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Nature Conservancy of Canada or a charity of your choice.
