Obituary of Elizabeth Bennett

Elizabeth Bennett (née DeCoste), aged 107, of Antigonish and formerly of Harve Boucher, passed away on August 31, 2026 in the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home where she received excellent care.

Born in the Avondale Train Station, Pictou County on May 3, 1919 she was the daughter of James and Jeanne (MacLean) DeCoste. Around age 10 she moved to Mabou with her family. Her dad was an operator at the railway station in Mabou, Cape Breton. She later graduated from the Convent School in Mabou.

She is survived by daughters Shirley (Lloyd) DeCoste; Corinne Armour; Margaret Bennett; Cathy (Dan) McVeigh; sons Mark, BC; Terry, BC; Raymond, Antigonish; Bert, BC; Michael, Antigonish; friend Barb MacPherson, Edmonton; sister Catherine Kowatski; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her husband Edward; son John; son-in-law Wayne Armour; sibilings Marie MacDonald; Helene MacVicar; Christine Dominque; Anne Angelescu; and brothers Francis, Patrick and Alex DeCoste.

Betty was a hardworker for her large family and made lots of wool socks and mittens. She enjoyed bowling, later in life when she moved to Greenwold Manor, with her husband, Edward.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Friday, September 4, 2026 in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., Antigonish. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 11 am in St. Ninian Cathedral, Reverend Donald MacGillivray presiding. Burial in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
