Nathaniel McCoy

Obituary of Nathaniel Aaron McCoy

It is with deep sorrow that the family of (Nathan) Nathaniel Aaron McCoy of Pomquet, Nova Scotia, announce his passing on June 16, 2023, after a long struggle with sadness and depression, which he tried so hard to overcome.  A bright light in our world has gone.

Nathan married Brooke Carroll of Ajax in June of 2018.  Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, Nathan and his family moved to Toronto in 2006.  Nathan is greatly loved by his church family at Kingsway Baptist Church in Etobicoke.  Nathan attended Islington Jr. Middle School and graduated from Etobicoke School of the Arts as an upright bass player.  Nathan went on to graduate from Laurentian University in April 2021.  Nathan moved to Pomquet, Nova Scotia in October of 2022.  He was a Teachers’ Aid and an Early Childhood Educator in the Strait Regional Centre for Education.

Nathan is survived by his parents, Tim and Julie McCoy of Pomquet, NS, sisters Daphne McCoy (Laurenn) of Pomquet, Nova Scotia, and Madeleine Darkwa (Charles, who was more his brother than his brother-in-law) and his grandfather Thomas “Buddy” Davis of Huntersville, North Carolina.  Nathan greatly loved, and was greatly loved by, his nephew Beckett McCoy.

Nathan was an avid sports fan, with his favorite teams being the Carolina Panthers and the Duke Blue Devils.  Music was a significant part of Nathan’s life. Nathan loved playing card and board games, Rail Baron being his favorite.

Honouring Nathan’s request, there will be no funeral service.  We encourage those who loved him to gather with others to remember him.

Gifts to honour Nathan’s life may be made to the charity of your choice.  Nathan respected all people's choices and decisions and would want you to decide where you direct any gifts. A few causes that were important to Nathan would be related to Indigenous Reconciliation and the Environment, as well, Nathan’s love for the Carolina Panthers can be memorialized through donations to the Keep Pounding Fund.
