Obituary of James Patrick Kelly

James "Jim" Patrick Kelly, 84 of the R.K Nursing home, formerly of Glencoe, Guysborough County passed away Monday, February 13, 2017 at the R.K.Nursing Home in Antigonish surrounded by family. Raised as a devout Catholic Christian and son of late Clara Kelly of Glencoe, Jim was a hardworking man who began farming as a child to help provide for his family. As an adult he left Glencoe and moved to Antigonish where he worked. He then married Sarah (MacEachern) Kelly in June 1960 and moved back to his home in Glencoe and with her had 15 children, but sadly lost one in infancy. Jim worked in forestry, with the Department of Transportation, Christmas trees and at the Belmont Resort, as well as working steady with farming at home to keep his family fed, planting potatoes, milking cattle and raising livestock to provide for his ever growing family; always putting in long days of back breaking labour and keeping his worries mostly to himself and doing the best he could to be the best he could with all the responsibilities of being a father to so many. Besides his mother, Jim was predeceased by his sons John, Gregory and Eddie, granddaughter, and great granddaughter. Jim is survived by his wife Sarah (MacEachern) Kelly, his children; Donalda, Francis (Pearl), George (Kim), Mary (Lee), Irene (James), Clara (Gordon), Billy (Karen), Michael, Douglas, Bridget, Sarah (Shawn) and Clarence (Jennifer), his brother John "Bud" Kelly, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jim is well known for his infectious sense of humour and contagious smile. He loved great conversation and always stopped to speak with everyone he knew. He will forever leave a void in the hearts he has touched. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 pm Sunday, February 19th in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., Antigonish. Funeral Mass 11:00am Monday, February 20 in St. Ninian’s Cathedral, Rev. Joe MacKenzie presiding. Burial at a later date in St. Thomas Cemetery, Salmon River, Guysborough County.
