Obituary of John Robert MacIsaac
John Robert MacIsaac died December 7th, 2017 at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Born August 26, 1947, he was the son of the late Bethel (Cameron) and Allister MacIsaac, Antigonish.
John grew up and was a lifelong resident of Antigonish. The whole community was his concern and he was always willing to initiate or encourage change. With enthusiasm, he proudly served and represented Antigonish on Town Council for sixteen years. During that time, he served as Deputy Mayor, chair of committees and he was a board member of the R. K. MacDonald Nursing Home. John was an honorary life member of the Kinsmen Club of Canada and gladly contributed to countless organizations and events.
Following in the footsteps of his Scottish ancestors, John participated in the annual Antigonish Highland Games. John’s professional career included his long association with his family’s business, Antigonish Wholesalers, for which he served as General Manager. For several years John and his brother Ronald were co-owners of The Klothes Kloset in the Antigonish Mall. In recent years he was self-employed as a Financial Advisor for MacIsaac Financial.
John is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen (Chisholm), his beloved and cherished daughter Kati (Antigonish) sons Allister (Edmonton), Michael (Vancouver) and five dear grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Ronald (Kate), Tom (Wendy), Debbie of Halifax and Beth (Gerry), Antigonish, his aunts, Joan MacIsaac (Truro), and Ethel Cole(Florida) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
John will be sadly missed by his mother-in-law and cribbage adversary, Mary (Tommy) Chisholm, St. Andrews N.S. and her family Maureen (Archie), Hugh James, Kevin (Leslie), Duncan (Gwen), Tom (Kathy), Harold (Claire), Mary Eileen and sisters-in-law, Erdine Chisholm and Cathy Chisholm and their families. His constant companion, Ruairi will miss his kind master.
John was predeceased by his grandparents, Captain John and Catherine MacIsaac, Robert and Katie Cameron, his father-in-law Thomas Chisholm and several aunts and uncles, as well as his brothers-in-law Gerald and Roddie Chisholm and sister-in-law Jessie Eileen Chisholm.
Visitation is Monday December 11 from 2-4 and 7-9 at MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St. Antigonish. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ninian’s Cathedral, Antigonish Tuesday December 12 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Donald MacGillivray presiding. Burial will be at a later date in Glen Bard Cemetery, James River, Antigonish County.
