Obituary of Mary Alice `Nancy` MacDonald

Passed away peacefully at the RK MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish, January 12th, 2018 at the age of 86. Nancy was the daughter of the late Leo and Violet (Burgey) of Ballantyne's Cove, NS. Born November 18th, 1931. Nancy was predeceased by her husband W. Joseph, sisters Yvonne, Leona, brothers Rankin, Larry. She is survived by sisters Dona, Charlotte, Marguerite, brother Allan. Nancy spent her youth in Ballantyne's Cove before meeting her husband Joe MacDonald and marrying in a double wedding ceremony with her sister Leona and Vesty MacDonald, in Toronto on November 9th, 1954. Nancy and Joe started their family in Ontario with sons David (Donna) and Peter (Liz) before moving to Ketch Harbour and extending their family to include Paul and Leo (Tracy). Nancy and Joe moved their family back to their roots in Antigonish in 1983. Nancy was an active parishioner of St. Ninian's Cathedral. She loved playing cribbage, knitting, the Blue Jays, going for walks, going for drives in the country, watching Jeopardy and having a cup of tea to hear the latest news. Nancy loved her family and friends and had a deep and unwavering faith in God. Nancy is survived by her grandchildren Rebecca (Alex), Tim (Erin), Sarah, Joe, Madeline, Calum; great granddaughter Victoria; numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends. There will be no visitation by Nancy's request. Funeral to be held January 17th at 11am at St. Ninian's Cathedral, Antigonish. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the RK MacDonald Nursing Home or St Martha's Hospital in memory of Nancy.
