MacDonald, Theresa – 81, of Doctor’s Brook, N.S., passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving son and family, December 24th, 2013 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Regional Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born August 28, 1932, in Maryvale, Antigonish Co., Theresa was the youngest child of the late Daniel R. and Mary Harriet (MacDougall) MacGillivray. As a young woman she worked in Boston before returning home to Maryvale. She worked at a clothing store in Antigonish for a few years. She married John B. (Jackie) MacDonald in 1963 living her entire married life in Doctor’s Brook.
Theresa was a homemaker after her son Gerard was born. She was known for loving games of bingo in Antigonish which was part of the reason Jackie named his boat the Jackpot. She also played many games of cards at home, the cottages, and at Arisaig Hall. Theresa adored having her family around in the summers spending time with all of them at the cottages. She adored her two granddaughters Kayla and Kerry and was very happy to see them especially when they were going to St. F. X. where she could see them more regularly. Since Theresa’s prolonged illness the family was very blessed by all the friends and family who continued to frequently visit her. It was so wonderful to have so many extended family, friends and community members help support the immediate family in their efforts to keep her spirits up.
Surviving are her son Gerard (Dara Lee) , granddaughters Kayla and Kerry all of New Glasgow; brother Aubrey, Chino, California; sister Catherine (late Howard) MacDougall, Halifax and many nieces and nephews. Theresa was predeceased by her husband John B. (Jackie) MacDonald in February 2011. She was also predeceased by sisters Margaret "Peggy", Mary Jane and brothers Lawrence, Donald, Alexander, John, Raymond, and Geordie.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all staff of the GARU/Stroke Unit, and the ALC unit at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital for their excellent care, kindness and compassion. Also thanks to the Glen Haven Manor New Glasgow staff for their care during her most recent short stay.
