When she was six years old, she and her four year old brother returned with their parents to Loch Katrine, NS. In 1942 Laura married Donald D. MacMillan and they bought a farm in Upper South River where they farmed and Donald was a truck driver. She enjoyed working on the farm with the animals and she had a special touch for gardening which she passed on to her children and grandchildren. Laura was always active in the community including Home and School, farming organizations, and the Tri-Com Community Club. A woman of great faith, Kings United Church held a special place in her life and she was active in the Sunday School program, UCW, The Church Choir, and the Forbes Memorial Choir.
