Obituary of Margaret Mary Parsons

Margaret Mary (Tompkins) Parsons, born July 14, 1926, in Northeast Margaree to John Leonard and Margaret (Smith) Tompkins. Passed peacefully on June 23rd after a brief illness at the QEII Health Science Centre. The eighth of nine children and the last of her siblings. Predeceased by her siblings Jerome, Richard, Rita, Catherine, Daniel, Jack , Gerald and Christine. A graduate of the Infirmary School of Nursing in 1949 she worked at the Infirmary Hospital. She met her soul mate, travel partner and husband Gerald in 1950 and married on January 26th 1953, at St. Mary's Basilica. As an Engineer with the Department of Highways their journey began. Finally settling in Halifax they started their own family. Mary was many things to all that loved her and all who she loved. But mostly she was a wife to Gerald, a mother, grandmother and a great grandmother and a cancer survivor. She had the ability to make each of us feel that you were her most special. She could bring the whole family together for many great dinners, drinks and always followed by great conversation. Always with a smile and a twinkle in her eye; she was a role model and an idol, and taught her daughter, granddaughters and great granddaughters to be strong women and her sons, grandsons and great grandsons to kind gentlemen. Mary loved so much about life. Lipstick, martinis, high heels, cooking, Blue Jays baseball, gardening and her family, all her passions. She will be missed by all who loved her. It is so hard to say good bye. She is survived by her loving husband Gerald of 61 years, children Bruce, St. John's, Newfoundland, Brenda (John Cameron), Doctors Brook, Antigonish County and Blair (Cindy), Halifax, grandchildren Julia, Corner Brook, Nicolas, St. John's, Newfoundland, Jerrold (Ann Francis) Montreal, Melissa (Brendan), Margaret (Adrian) Becky (Sean) all of Antigonish County, Adam and Anna Halifax. Great-grandchildren Ewan, (Montreal). Mya, Jon, Sadie and Sam, Brooke, Elsa, Lauchlin, Andrew and Quinn all of Antigonish County. Also brother and sister in-laws, Dr. Cyril and Jean Poole of Sackville New Brunswick.
