Obituary of Eugene Allan MacDonald
MacDonald, Eugene Allan (Deannie) 91, Lakevale, Antigonish Co. passed away on Jan. 17, 2015, with his family at his side in the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home,. Born in Fairmont, he was the second eldest of 11 children of Hughie and Margaret MacDonald.
Deanie’s work took him to various parts of Canada including Sudbury, Vancouver, North Bay, and Newfoundland. Deanie then returned home and worked as a security officer at St. Francis Xavier University until his retirement. He was a quiet man who always enjoyed his time "in the woods", time spent hunting and listening to fiddle music. Deanie was a member of the Woodlot Owners Association of NS, and was a warden of St Columba’s parish.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Martha (Boyd), children Greg (Louise), Hamilton, Lugene (Bert) Young, Truro, Bernard (Trish), Morristown, Blaine (Sandra), Halifax, 10 grandchildren, Lugene, Grant, Jill; Erika, Rachel; Brian, Mark; Liam and Maryn.
He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Roddy, Francie, Fr. Bernie, and Billy; his sisters Mary (Desmond) Chabot, Lucy (Al) Perdigao, and infant grandchild Theresa. He is survived by his sisters Eileen (late John) Gillis, Betty (Bill) Conroy, Valeta (late Manuel) Perdigao; sister in law, Maggie (late Francie) MacDonald, brother John "farmer" (late Patricia) MacDonald. He is also survived by 38 nieces and nephews and their families.
Visitation 2-4pm and 7-9pm Monday, January 19 in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., Antigonish. Funeral Mass 11:00 am Tuesday, January 20, in St. Columba Church, Lakevale, Rev. Evo DiPierro presiding. Burial will be in St. Columba Parish Cemetery, Lakevale.
