Obituary of Alice Catherine MacDonald

Alice Catherine MacDonald, nee MacLellan, of 17 Orchard Terrace, Antigonish, passed away peacefully, February 20, 2015 in the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish. Born November 12, 1918 in Antigonish, she was a daughter of the late Allan and Bertha (MacDonald) MacLellan of Clydesdale. Alice was a homemaker who cherished spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spent many happy summers with her family at Mahoney’s Beach. Hobbies included knitting, crocheting, bird watching, reading, baking for her family and watching the weather. Alice maintained her great sense of humor right to the end. Surviving are her four children Tina (Dave) Sweet, Janet (Bob) Funke, Gerald (Marian) MacDonald, and Vera MacDonald, grandchildren, Jennifer Funke, Ryan MacDonald, Robin (Melvin) Gilliam, Jillian (Terry) Funke, Tyler (Caitlin) MacDonald, Kathleen (Curtis) Funke, great-grandchildren Heather Boyko, Oliver Gilliam, Rylie Gilliam,special cousin Janet Farrell, foster siblings Mary DeWolfe and Donald Hall, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Alex MacDonald, brothers Hugh Dan, Johnny and Willie MacLellan, sisters-in-law Tillie, Marion and Muriel MacLellan and her husband Alex’s family from Port Hood, whom she loved dearly. The family would like to thank all of the special caregivers who cared for her with great love. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 pm Tuesday in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., Antigonish. Funeral Mass 11:00am Wednesday, February 25, in St. Ninian’s Cathedral, Antigonish, Rev. Donald MacGillivray presiding. Burial in the parish cemetery at a later date. Donations to Covenant House, NS Lung Association or the RK MacDonald Foundation.
