Obituary of Catherine Cecilia Gillis

Catherine Cecilia "Kay" Gillis; of Georgeville, Antigonish Co. passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 17, 2015 in Highcrest Nursing Home, Sherbrooke. Born in Antigonish, she was a daughter of the late William Joseph and Catherine (MacInnis) MacEachern. Kay worked at ST. FX University for 25 years where she enjoyed interacting with the students. She was a gifted artist and a dedicated mother. Surviving are children and Elaine (late Roddy) Heffernan; Anne Leier, Kelowna, BC; Kathy Switzer (Barry), Grenfell SK; Wendy (Rodney Meng) Gillis, Maryvale; Bobby, Georgeville. grand children Emily and Mark Heffernan; Jonathan and Sarah Gillis; Freya Vos, Rachel and Heather Leier; Jonathan and Travis Switzer; Kristen, Katie, Malcolm MacEachern; Amanda Hulbert; Robbie Gillis; nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband John; son John; great granddaughter Madison Switzer; sisters Peggy MacEachern, Elizabeth MacEachern, Thelma Burke, Rita MacDonald, Florence Schilling, Ruth Diggins; brothers Mark and John Hugh. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 Wednesday, March 25, 2015 in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., Antigonish. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 AM Thursday, March 26 in St. Georges Church, Georgeville , Rev. Evo Di Pierro presiding. Burial at a later date in the Parish Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
