Obituary of Hugh MacDonald

Hugh "Hughie Miller" MacDonald, of Pleasant Valley, Antigonish County, passed away peacefully, at home, Friday, April 24, 2015. Born in Doctor's Brook, he was a son of the late Stephen and Marcella (MacDonald) MacDonald. Hughie was a dedicated, hard worker. He worked throughout the province for Colin R. MacDonald Construction, (now Alva) for many years, seemingly building every bridge on the Cabot Trail. An avid sports fan, Hughie especially enjoyed local hockey and St. FX Football. He cherished his grandchildren, and enjoyed drives to Arisaig and Tim Hortons. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Catherine "Caddy", daughters Charlene "Shelly" (Peter) Bowen, Pleasant Valley, Mary (Shannon Aubrecht), Calgary grandchildren Kaitlyn, Ashley, Hailey, Ethan and Lexy, brothers Ron (Joan) and Steve, both of Antigonish and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters Mary MacGillivray, Catherine MacInnis, brothers Joe, Sandy, Bill, Leo and Jackie. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 Monday, April 27, 2015 in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant Street, Antigonish. Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday in St. Mary’s Church, Maryvale, Rev Evo DiPierro presiding. Burial in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
