Obituary of Joyce Marie Chisholm

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Joyce Chisholm (Gilfoy) age 81, of Williams Point, Antigonish, N.S. on May 1, 2015 at Saint Martha’s Regional Hospital with loving family at her side. Joyce was born in Halifax on November 25, 1933 to the late Robert and Catherine (Lewin) Gilfoy. A graduate of Saint Martha’s Hospital School of Nursing, Joyce was a compassionate and well respected nurse. As her family grew she chose to stay at home with her 8 children. When her husband passed away at an early age from cancer she devoted her life to raising her children. She spent countless hours watching them at the arena. Joyce later returned to the workforce as a PCW at the RK MacDonald Nursing Home and friends and neighbors looked forward to her smiling face as the Williams Point AVON lady. She was a long standing member of St. Ninian's CWL and the Clan Chisholm Society. Joyce was predeceased by her husband Ray in 1978 and is survived by her children Robert (Natalie), Hammonds Plains; Anne (Gary Monkman), Prince George; John, USA; Donald (Cindy), Catherine (Gordon Beaton), Andrew (Roxanne), Blair (Charmaine MacLean), all of Antigonish; Krista (David Wruth), Vanderhoof; grandchildren Aidan Chisholm, Zachary (Carriff) , Jared , Chisholm and Patrick (Emma) Cooke, Daniel, James, Alison and Kara Chisholm, Kenneth (Taylor) and Dylan Beaton, Nicholas Chisholm, Raymond Chisholm, Logan Chisholm, Declan, Curan and Liam Wruth; and great-grandson Ross Cooke. Joyce the last remaining member of her immediate family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her Gilfoy brothers and their wives: Harry (Kay), Pete, Bernie (Joan), Bill (Tootsie), Ted, Harold (Nellie); niece Karen Mutchmor; and her Chisholm brothers-and sisters-in-law Margaret, Christy, Ronald, Jim, John and Ambrose Chisholm; Cecilia Noonan, Rose MacLellan, and Marion Pottie. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grand-and great-grand nieces and nephews and cousins. Visitation at MacIsaac Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 5 from 2-4 and 7-9 with funeral service 11:00am Wednesday, May 6, at St. Ninian’s Cathedral, Antigonish, with burial in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
