Euphemia Overmars

Obituary of Euphemia Alberta Overmars

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Euphemia Alberta "Feem" Overmars, 93, of St. Andrews, Antigonish County. She passed away peacefully in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital with her family at her side, June 6, 2015, after a brief illness. Born in The Netherlands, Feem immigrated with her husband Anton to Canada in 1949. Overcoming language and cultural barriers, they settled in Antigonish in 1950 where they worked and raised a family of 10 children. In St. Andrews she and Anton started their farming career, first establishing a successful dairy farm and many years later they worked together to establish and grow Tony Overmars Farms Ltd. She worked tirelessly and sought perfection in everything she did. Feem loved her family very much, and her Sunday morning coffee with her family was the highlight of her week. She enjoyed her card games with her family and friends, in particular a weekly card night with her grandchildren. Feem was very active in her community, her church, and the Oak &Owl Senior Club. She was a devoted catholic with deep faith. Feem was a wonderful knitter, making blankets and afghans for each new bride, and each first new baby in the family. She was renowned for her beautiful plants inside and outside her cozy home. Her African violets were spectacular. Feem is survived by her children Gerard (Anna), Antigonish, John (Mary), Mt. Brydges, ON, Tony (Jenny), Antigonish Landing, Henry (Barb), St. Andrews, Mary (Bob) Gay, Bible Hill, Francis (Estelle), St. Andrews, Jeannette (Walt) Bonetti, White Rock, BC, Joe (Carrie), Boyle AB, Veronica (Doug) McMillan, Truro, and Paul, St. Andrews; 31 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one sister in the Netherlands.
