Obituary of Catherine Ann MacDonald
Catherine Ann “Nan” MacDonald, aged 88 passed away at her home at Sylvan Valley Rd, Antigonish, on March 3rd, 2018. She died as she lived, quietly and gently surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Giants Lake on November 26th, 1929 to the late Mabel (Deon) and Johnny Miles MacPherson. She is survived by daughters Barbara, Alexina and Lynn and son John (Joy). Grand children Jessa (Jimmy Carr), Alexander, Jade and Brooke MacDonald. Great grandchildren Emmett and Ellis Carr. Sister in law Jessie Sears and many nieces and nephews.
Mom was a trained hairdresser and had a second career working in the cafeteria at Antigonish Regional High School, a job she truly loved. She was our protective mama bear, the queen of her little castle, in her day a card shark, great cookie maker and someone with an amazing memory who could always find anything we had left behind no matter how long ago. She could fix most things, could solve any math problem and helped a lot with our homework, she took great pride in her home. She loved her family, neighbours and especially her grand children who were all very special to her. Last summer she loved sitting on her back deck in the sun and listening to Emmett and Ellis laugh as they rode around on their little John Deere tractor. She appreciated the simple things in life and never complained. She attributes her longevity to blueberries from her home in Giants Lake.
She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years Billy the Painter, brothers John R and Joe and sister Mary Levy, son in law Brian Quinlan, many sisters and brothers in law. Best friend Mary (MacInnis) MacKinnon who she said was just like a sister.
