Obituary of Carman William Blaise Tobin
It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Carman William Blaise Tobin at home surrounded by those who adored him. Carman was born in Antigonish and was the son of the late Mabel and Thomas Tobin. In his earlier years he had a love for baseball and was an extremely talented pitcher. In 1955 he married his longtime sweetheart, Ethel Mae MacInnis and together they raised four children.
He was a very loyal employee of CN Railway for 38 years until he took an early retirement in 1988 to spend more time with his family. He loved babies and would spend countless hours rocking his grandchildren and helping out in any way he could. He believed in living a simple life and material things were so unimportant to him. He believed in giving to those less fortunate than him and showed that by his extremely generous donations to many charities. He showed tireless devotion and such loving care to his wife Ethel when she became ill in 2009 until her passing in 2016. Because of that, we were able to honor Mom’s wishes to keep her home.
Carman is survived by three daughters, Charmaine (Terrance) Bowman, Darlene (Jeff) Sullivan, Tracey (Basil) Pitts, daughter in law Jan Tobin, all of Antigonish, sister Elizabeth Thibodeau, Troy, NS, 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Ethel Mae MacInnis, his only son Blaise (Jan), sisters Majorie Tobin and Aloma Hawley.
We would like to send our deepest appreciation to Dr. Martin Eckhart, Dr. Michael Mackenzie, and palliative care nurse Frances Chisholm, and last but certainly not least the amazing nurses at VON Antigonish. The compassionate care provided to our father will not be forgotten. We will forever be grateful.
Visitation will take place Friday, April 20th, 2018 at MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., Antigonish, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St.Ninian’s Cathedral on Saturday April 21st at 11am, Rev Donald MacGillivray presiding, burial in the parish cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations may be made to VON Antigonish or St. Martha’s Palliative Care Unit.
