Obituary of Angus Lauchie MacPherson

We regret to announce the death of Angus Lauchie MacPherson, Upper South River, Antigonish County, who passed away peacefully at the Veteran’s Wing of St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, on January 7th, 2016. Angus was born May 6, 1923 to the late John Vincent and Margaret Alice (MacDonald) MacPherson, of Upper South River. Angus served his country from 1943-1945; and, he was injured on April 13, 1945, while serving with the Queens Own Rifles. He went back with his comrades after a week of recovery. After the war, Angus attended St. FX, and worked in the mines of Ontario, for a short time until the South River hills, called him home. He took over the family farm; and, in 1966, Angus married Mary Josepha Coady, and they had two children. Angus farmed and worked in the woods until he was well into his 80’s. On December 21st, 2011 Angus lost his wife and best friend suddenly; and, his health started to decline after that. September, 2015 Angus went to live at the Veteran’s Wing of the hospital. Besides being predeceased by his parents and wife, he was predeceased by siblings Hugh Donald, Kay (MacLeod), Mary Alice (DeWolfe), Margaret "Peggy" (MacDonald) and Gerard. He is survived by children Roddie and Heather, both of Upper South River, sisters, Sister Sarah MacPherson CSM, Bethany Motherhouse, and Bertha Ronan, Tonawanda, NY, brother John Roddie, Bowmanville, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 pm Monday, January 11, in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St, Antigonish. Funeral Mass 11 am Tuesday, Jan 12 in St. Andrew’s Church, St. Andrew’s, Rev. Gary MacPherson presiding. Burial in the South River Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to VETS Canada- Veteran’s Emergency Transition Services…so "no veteran gets left behind".
