Obituary of Mary Ellen MacDonald
MacDonald, Mary Ellen, (Carroll) 92, of Springfield, St. Andrews, Antigonish County, passed away peacefully on February 27 , 2020 in the RK MacDonald Nursing Home, surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Beauly, Antigonish County, on November 4th, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Mary Catherine (Cameron) Carroll.
Mary Ellen, the matriarch of the Carroll family, loved to organize family celebrations (especially on Boxing day) involving delicious food, fiddle music and dancing. She was always quick to assist those in need and was a valued member of the Springfield community and St. Andrews Parish, where she offered her service as a CWL member for many years. Mary Ellen had a great sense of humour and loved to laugh. She was a baker to be envied! Neighbours could always count on an offering of fresh bread, biscuits, squares, home-made rhubarb jam, and a strong cup of tea any day of the week at her tidy home and you wouldn’t leave until she was sure you were full!
Mary Ellen is survived by her daughters, Juanita, Ottawa; and Shauna, Toronto; siblings, De De Kelly, Antigonish; Mary Kate (Clarence) Farrell, Lanark; Danny (Mary) St. Andrews; Jimmy (Emily), St. Andrews; Joe (Linda) St. Catharine’s, ON; Mae (Robert) Rennie, Antigonish; Tata, Antigonish and brother-in-law, Ray Murphy.
She was predeceased by her devoted husband Andrew Archibald (Big Buddy Dave) MacDonald, her brothers, Johnny (Margie) and Alexander, sister Anna Murphy and sister Mary Margaret, in infancy.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the staff of the RK for 14 years of loving care. Your kindness and support will never be forgotten.
