It is with profound sadness that we, the family of Angus Thane Cameron, 63, of Fairmont, announce his passing at home on Thursday, September 3, 2020.

Born in Antigonish, he was the eldest son of Thane and Catherine (Wallace) Cameron, husband to his wife of 39 years, Susan (MacKinnon) and father to his son, Thane Jr. Thane was also a big brother to Bernie (Donna) Kerase (Carol Ann), Les (Allie) and John (Krista) and to his sisters, Evie (Peter Alex) and Anne.  He is also survived by uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews, cousins and in-laws.  He was predeceased by his father, Thane and brother, Alex.

Over his working life, Thane was a talented and creative contractor and business owner, using his energy and ideas in myriad ways in the construction industry. He was President of the Antigonish Trucker’s Association.

Average is not a word ever used to describe Thane.  He was strong in spirit, mind and body. His gift of wit and humour, accompanied by his big laugh, were central to his being.  He was a grand man for the plans, some of which were also grandly realized.  He also liked conversations, gatherings big and small and everything that came with them.

His enthusiasm for life and the possibilities it offered, kept life interesting for everyone around him.   His curiosity about the world around him and beyond, which he pursued first hand through travel and vicariously through reading, was contagious.  He was passionate about Fairmont, music, and outdoor pursuits such as camping, snowmobiling, sailing and, swimming.

His niece Emily’s fond words to him captures his generous capacity for love: “All the love and attention you gave to your small niece who loved her giant of an uncle.”

We wish to express our gratitude for the army of health care workers that cared for him, in particular, Dr. Phillip Cooper, Heather Brander, RN, Dr. Islam, Sydney and Dr. Michael Moser, Saskatoon.

Visitation Sunday, September 6 from 2-4 pm in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., Antigonish. Funeral mass 11 am Monday in St. Ninian Cathedral. Burial in the parish cemetery. COVID+19 protocols will be in place.  Donations in his name may be made to the Antigonish Town and County Palliative Care Society, or a charity of your choice.  Online condolences: www.MacIsaacs.ca
