John Lawrence “Buddy” MacGillivray, 90, of Addington Forks, passed away at St. Martha’s Hospital on Sunday, Nov. 15th, 2020. The son of the late Vincent and Mary (MacLean) MacGillivray of Glen Road, he was born on Sept. 9, 1930.

He left school at a young age to help on the family farm following the death of his father. He would work odd jobs to help support the family, his mother and nine sisters, including road work, bridge painting, carpentry and engine repairs. After he gave up farming, he started driving the school bus, which he did for 37 years.

He loved everything mechanical and could fix anything. His shop was often a gathering place for car enthusiasts. He had a special interest in, and love of, antique cars, especially his ’46 Chev pickup, which he restored. His primary love was for his family, however, to whom  he was a dedicated husband, father and brother.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Laura (MacLean), daughters Laurinda (Trueman) Matheson, St. Andrews; Janice Watson, Maryvale; Shannon MacGillivray, Calgary, AB; Tanya MacGillivray, Dartmouth; and son Allan MacGillivray, Ft. McMurray, AB. He will be missed also by his grandchildren Cairistiona, Eilidh, Mairead and Catriona Matheson, and Leif and Doven Watson. He is also survived by sisters Elizabeth VanVlaenderen, Mary Margaret (Philip) Arsenault, Florence MacGillivray Delaney, Marie MacGillivray and Vency Jean, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, and sisters Charlotte Malcolm, Catherine MacNeil, Sr. Christine MacGillivray, CSM, and Rosemary MacGillivray.
