We are saddened to announce that our beloved mother, Catherine Jeanette “Jeanette” Chisholm, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2021 in the RK MacDonald Nursing Home. Jeanette was born in Antigonish October 7, 1936 and was the daughter of the late Josephine (MacInnis) and Joseph MacGillivray. She grew up in Glen Road, and lived in Antigonish and Heatherton. Mom was the middle child of nine.

Mom loved sports and in her younger years she enjoyed playing softball, bowling and skating. She was a member of the 1958 Antigonish Ladies Softball Champs. In her later years she enjoyed swimming, walking the track at STFX. She could often be heard yelling at the TV when the Blue Jays were playing. After working at the Co-op and the Brigadoon, she graduated from St. Joseph’s Convent in Mabou with secretarial training. She worked at the Department of Highways until the time of her marriage in 1973. She joined the Heatherton CWL in 1975 and readily volunteered in the local community/parish and for the Red Cross for over ten years.

Jeanette kept her sense of humour right up to the end and loved a good practical joke. She loved her family and enjoyed hosting family from near and far. Mom enjoyed her travels to Kenya for her son’s wedding, USA to visit family and across Canada, but was always glad to get home. She was very social, taking part in many community events over the years and had many friends. Jeanette loved to keep busy and rarely sat down. She loved raising her family and was a very proud mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her son Paul (Josie), Calgary AB; daughter Donna (Aaron Cross), Ajax ON; six grandchildren: Kingsley, Malcolm, Aubrey and Charlotte Chisholm; Ewan and Zoey Cross – all at home; siblings Annie Florence Linart, Michigan; Ron MacGillivray (Virginia), Brampton, ON; Joseph MacGillivray (Mary), Dartmouth; John MacGillivray (Donna), Campbell River, BC; and Margaret Collins, Halifax; sisters and brothers in law Ben Charneski, Catherine Ranger, Libby MacDonald, Albert and Joan Chisholm, Evelyn Chisholm; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Ronald; sisters Mary Aude and Jessie Charneski; brother Bernie MacGillivray; nephew Joe Charneski; several sisters and brothers-in-law.

We would like to thank the RK MacDonald Nursing Home for the exceptional love and care provided to our mother over the last few years.
