Obituary of John A. MacDonnell

John A. MacDonnell, 98, of Glen Roy, Antigonish County passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 3rd, 2016 in the RK MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish. Born in Glen Roy, he was a son of the late Angus and Florence (MacPherson) MacDonnell. John A. was a lineman for the Nova Scotia Power Commission. He was a member of St. Andrew's Parish and the Oak & Owl Club where he did many hours of volunteer work for both the parish and the community. He enjoyed gardening and caring for his immaculate property. He spent many hours in the woods preparing firewood. He enjoyed attending local sporting events, and the card games (right up until his 98th birthday last week), and a strong cup of tea. Surviving are brother, Donald (Anita), Hamilton; sisters Theresa (Nick) Landry, Lower South River; Mary (late Dougald) Gillis, Pinevale; Joan (late Bernard) Chisholm, Lanark; sister-in-law Catherine MacDonnell; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Alex, Allan F. sisters Sadie MacDonald and Kay Landry. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 pm Thursday, May 5, 2016 in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., Antigonish. Funeral Mass 10:30am Friday in St. Andrew's Church, St. Andrews. Rev. Gary MacPherson presiding. Burial in the parish cemetery. Donations can be made to the Oak & Owl Club or St. Andrew's Cemetery Fund.
