After a long, well lived life, the Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame, announce the death of Sr. Rita Chisholm on August 21, 2022 at the CND Health Centre in Sydney.
Sr. Rita was born in Heatherton on September 28, 1922, a daughter of the late Roderick and Rose Ann Chisholm.
Sr. Rita entered the Congregation of Notre Dame in 1942 and was professed in 1944. She began her teaching career in Montreal then Summerside, PE, followed by 32 years in Antigonish. Retiring from teaching she served in various capacities in the parishes of Antigonish and Stanley, NB.
In 2011, Sr. Rita moved to Parkland Cape Breton until 2020 when she was welcomed at the CND Health Centre, Sydney.
Sr. Rita was a prayerful woman whose ministry was characterized by kindness, humility and creativity.
Sr. Rita was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by sisters Mary (Charles) Fraser; Annie; Margaret (Howard) Yeo; brothers John (Mary) and James (Margaret). She is survived by numerous loving nieces, nephews and faithful friends.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., Antigonish, where a prayer service will be held at 5:30 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 am Wednesday, August 24, 2022 in Immaculate Conception Church, Heatherton, Rev. Andrew Gillies presiding. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery followed by a reception at the Heatherton Community Centre. Attendees of visitation and funeral are requested to wear a facemask. A video recording of the funeral mass will be available at www.MacIsaacs.ca on Wednesday afternoon.
