Obituary of Irene Elizabeth Baskin

Irene Elizabeth (Grant) Baskin of Boylston, Nova Scotia passed away on August 3, 2016 at the age of 76 saying goodbye to her daughters Kimberly and Katarin, and her best friend Merlin, in the Guysborough Memorial Hospital. She was a daughter of the late John and Hilda (O’Connor) Grant, of Lesterdale. At a young age, she trained as a nurse and her career spanned more than forty years, four provinces and one territory. She loved her work and her quick wit made long night shifts more memorable. Later, it made her own stays in hospital, while she battled cancer, an interesting ride. She was a determined, tenacious, and an independent woman. She leaves behind her two daughters, Dr. Kimberly Baskin (Dr. José Cabral), Bayfield, ON and Dr. Katarin MacLeod, PhD. (David MacLeod, MA), Antigonish, two granddaughters Alinta Izabelle MacLeod and Anya Irene MacLeod, and her best friend, who made her smile each day, Merlin Andrews. Her loving husband Roy W. Baskin predeceased her in 1997. We love you, we miss you, and wish you peace. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 pm Monday, August 8 in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., Antigonish. Funeral Mass 10:30 am Tuesday in St. Ninian’s Cathedral, Rev. Dr. John Barry presiding, burial in the parish cemetery. Donations to the Guysborough Memorial Hospital.
