Obituary of Robert Ronald Rogers

We regret to announce the passing of Robert Ronald (Bob) Rogers, of Antigonish.

Born in Sydney, NS he was a son of the late Henry and Lillian (Brinston) Rogers of Sydney. He was predeceased by his brother, William Rogers of Antigonish. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Carol; nephews and niece, Bill (Veronica), Bonnyville, AB; Dave,  Inuvik, NWT; Richard, Inuvik, NWT; Ron, Westlock, AB; Wally (Kelly) of Nampa, AB; Julie, Halifax, N.S.; and John (Andrea} Halifax, N.S.

Bob attended STFX University in Antigonish, graduating in 1970 with a Bachelor of Education degree. Bob spent his entire teaching career at the Dr. John Hugh Gillis Regional School originally named Antigonish Regional High School. “Cool Bob” as his students affectionately nick-named him, was a popular science teacher.

During his school days in Sydney, Bob played a number of sports including baseball, and also developed his life-long love for the sport of Badminton. In addition, Bob was the founder of Antigonish Badminton, coaching and mentoring kids in the sport for almost 50 years. Under Bob’s guidance, students from Antigonish went on to local and Provincial championship titles, attended Canada Games and International competitions.

Our family would like to thank all of Bob’s friends, students and former co-workers who befriended and supported Bob and kept in touch over the years. Most notably, the family would like to thank Mr. Robert Proctor for his friendship and companionship shared with Bob over many years. Thank you Robert. 

Final arrangements are still being worked on at this time. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Antigonish Badminton,  scholarship@antigonishbadminton.ca
