Obituary of Arnold Aloysius DeCoste
We regret to announce the passing of Arnold A. DeCoste formerly of West Havre Boucher in the R. K. MacDonald Nursing Home on September 26, 2023. He was 83.
Arnold was the last surviving member of the immediate family of the late Peter and Mamie DeCoste.
Arnold was a School Bus Driver for many years for the Antigonish District School Board. He took great pride in making sure the students arrived at school and back home safely.
Arnold was an avid gardener. He and his first wife, Mary, sold many quarts of delicious strawberries, and he was also known to have the finest rhubarb patch in all of Havre Boucher. Arnold was a person who never passed up a good game of 45's or crib, coming out on the winning end more times than not. Arnold and Mary were like a couple of teenagers who couldn't wait for the weekend to go and dance the night away listening to "Newfie Fever".
After the passing of his first wife, Arnold met the second love of his life, Marie Chisholm. Marie was also a person who loved to dance, so the dancing shoes weren't cold for too long.
Arnold is survived by his second wife, Marie, Step-son Leo MacGillivray (Joan); son-in-law Kevin Kilfoil; granddaughter Christine; grandsons Zack, Aaron and Ryan. Also Marie's children Dan (Betty Lou) Chisholm; Wanda (Greg) Hebb; Wendy (Brian) Spragg and Tim (Susan) Chisholm. Arnold was predeceased by his first wife, Mary (Pettipas); his daughter Doreen Maire; sister Della; brothers Bob and Bill.
Visitation will be held from 2-5 pm on Friday, September 29, 2023 in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St. Funeral mass 11 am Saturday in St. Ninian Cathedral, Rev. Danny MacLennan presiding. Burial in St. Paul's Cemetery, Havre Boucher. Family flowers only please. Donations may be made to a charity of choice.
