Obituary of Cathy Gillis

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Catherine Elizabeth Gillis on October 16, 2023 in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish. The middle child of a family of nine, Cathy was born October 30, 1952 to the late A.J. and Rita (Chisholm) Gillis.

Following graduation from St. Francis Xavier University with a Bachelor of Secretarial Arts, she worked the majority of her career with the Antigonish Correctional Services Community office, retiring in 2010.

Cathy was a sports enthusiast. She played softball and was a former member of the Antigonish Golf Club. A lifelong Chicago Blackhawks fan, but also enjoyed following most all sports.

A lover of animals, she had many pets over the years, most recently taming and adopting a feral cat she named "Beau".

Cathy is survived by brothers John (Pat); David (Marlene); Collie; Ronnie (Trish); Eddie (Joanne) all of Antigonish; sisters Lorraine (Richard) MacGillivray, Riverview, NB; and Teresa (Mark) MacInnis, Waverley, NS; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Mary.

There will be no visitation by request. Funeral Mass 11 am Thursday, October 19, 2023 in St. Patrick's Church, Lochaber, Reverend Tom Stephan presiding. Burial in the parish cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA or charity of your choice.
