Obituary of Mary Rita Lavoie

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mary Lavoie (formerly Phinney/Kelly), aged 57, passed away in St. Martha's Regional Hospital in Antigonish on Wednesday, November 1st, 2023, surrounded by loved ones.

Born in Antigonish and growing up in Glencoe, Guysborough, NS, she was a daughter of the late James and Sarah Kelly.

Recently married on July 23, 2023, Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She had a huge heart, and was always trying to make people laugh. Mary loved the outdoors. When she was able, she adored going for walks, geocaching, and exploring beaches. She always enjoyed watching and taking photos of sunsets and rainbows, and she thoroughly enjoyed listening to frogs and the rain falling. Mary loved Christmastime, so her lights were always lit and holiday movies would be on anytime of the year. She appreciated any time she got to spend with family and friends. She especially enjoyed her visits and road trips with her best friend and sister, Donalda.

She is survived by her husband, and Royal Canadian Navy Veteran, Luc Lavoie; five children; two step-children; eight grandchildren; five sisters; six brothers; as well as in-laws, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families.

Predeceased by companion, Leander Surette, brothers Edward, Gregory, and John in infancy.

Visitation will be held Saturday, November 18th from 4-8 pm in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant Street, Antigonish. Private family burial will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to Canadian PBC Society.
