Obituary of Mary Janet MacDonald-Cormier

Mary Janet MacDonald-Cormier, 97; passed away peacefully on August 22, 2016 at St Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish surrounded by family. She was a former resident at High Crest Nursing Home in Sherbrooke and recently resided at the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish. She was one of eighteen children born to the late Angus A. MacGillivary, Williams Point and Catherine 'Cassie' MacLean of the Keppoch. Mary Janet is predeceased by nine brothers; Ramond and Vincent in infancy; Jack, Father Joe, Collie, Ronald, Hughie, Duncan and Johnnie; and three sisters: Kay, Margaret and Sarah. Her husbands Ranald Colin MacDonald,, '65; and Phil Cormier, '99. She is survived by her daughter Mary K. (Clifford) Soper, Blackfalds, AB; Tommy, Red Deer, and Leo (Cathy) MacDonald, Brierly Brook. Also two sisters, Rose, Illinois; Claire, Florida; brothers; Billy (Hilda), Omer (Doris), Antigonish; Campbell, Halifax. Mary Janet was a hair dresser who, upon the death of her husband Ranald, built an addition to her home on Highland Drive and opened her own shop where there was always tea, snacks, and gentle laughter. Her many clients became dear and lifelong friends. Those that would have known Mary Janet would appreciate that she was happiest with her home filled with family and friends; especially with a wild, wicked game of scat on the go. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 pm Thursday, August 25, 2016 in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., Antigonish. Funeral Mass 11:00 am, Friday, August 26, 2016 in St Ninian’s Cathedral, Antigonish. Rev. Gary MacPherson presiding. Burial in the Parish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Vincent de Paul Society or a charity of choice.
