Obituary of John Lawrence Bennett

John Lawrence Bennett, formerly of East Havre Boucher, beloved son of Edward and Betty (DeCoste) Bennett, was born on April 11, 1955, in Antigonish. He peacefully passed away on January 23, 2024, at the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home in Antigonish, the place he had called home for over 20 years.

John was preceded in death by his father, Edward, his grandparents James and Jeanne (MacLean) DeCoste, and Mark and Henrietta (Landry) Bennett. He was also preceded by his brother-in-law, Wayne Armour. Although he may be gone from our sight, his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

John is survived by his mother Betty; siblings: Mark Bennett, British Columbia; Terry Bennett, British Columbia; Shirley (Lloyd) DeCoste, Ontario; Corinne Armour, Ontario; Raymond Bennett, Antigonish; Bert Bennett, British Columbia; Margaret Bennett, Ontario; Michael Bennett, Antigonish; and Cathy (Dan) McVeigh, Ontario. John's presence will be sorely missed by his family, as he leaves behind a void that can never be filled.

Known for his sense of humor and unwavering loyalty as a devoted fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, John had an extraordinary ability to make friends with anyone he met. He cherished the friendships he formed, particularly with the compassionate and dedicated staff at the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home. Their unwavering kindness and care have significantly impacted John's life, and the family would like to express their deepest gratitude for their exceptional support throughout the years.

A funeral service to celebrate John's life will be held at the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home, 64 Pleasant Street, on Tuesday, January 30th with visitation from 10:00 until time of funeral at 11 am. The family kindly requests that any donations be made to the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home Foundation in memory of John. Your generosity will contribute to the ongoing care and comfort provided to other residents at the nursing home.
